The programmes are run by the reserve as community-based ecotourism, with guides from the surrounding villages. Places are limited, so plan ahead; we help you choose the right programmes and plan the rest of your trip.
October to February is pleasant and green. March to May is drier and animals often gather near the lake. The monsoon brings heavy rain and leeches, and some programmes may be shortened or paused.
Some programmes, such as half-day bamboo rafting and the two-night Tiger Trail, do not allow children below 12. Lake boating and the Gavi safari suit all ages. Each programme page lists its own rules.
Madurai airport is about four hours away and Kochi about five hours by road. Kottayam is the most convenient railway station, around three and a half to four hours away.
